This month, we are excited to bring you a special feature – our article today was written by a guest blogger, our very own Marketing Coordinator, Laura De Lorenzi!

Hello Staff Shop Blog readers!

My name is Laura and I am a fashion blogger, content creator and virtual stylist. I started my blog “A Little Touch of Gold” in 2016 after friends and family encouraged me to share my fashion knowledge and lifestyle tips with the world. I have since published 267 blog posts, gained 1000 subscribers and reached 50,000 hits. My blog is primarily fashion and lifestyle focused; sharing everything from “Must Have Bags for Spring,” “How to Achieve Your Goals in 2023” and “The Best Strawberry Shortcake Recipe.” I have a couple of regular features, including “Monthly Favourites” and “Help…I Have a Shopping Addiction” where I share my latest fashion finds. The growth of my blog led me into content creation on Instagram and TikTok, as well as virtual styling through my company Styled by ALTG. Through these ventures I’ve worked with companies I could have only dreamed of, such as Mejuri, Jenny Bird, Dermalogica, Merit and Blissy, to name a few.

From there I began creating content for other companies, including Staff Shop, where I was able to freelance while getting my degree at Toronto Metropolitan University. I am now Staff Shop’s Marketing Coordinator, overseeing all our social channels and marketing media.

Styled by ALTG

The idea behind Styled By ALTG was incubated during Covid when I started creating blog posts styling my friends, family and other readers for various events. Clients would come to me overwhelmed with choices or lost on how to take their personal style to the next level. I realized there was a gap in the market, especially during this time where everything was done virtually. From there, Styled by ALTG was launched on my website with the idea to “Live every day in style.” Clients simply inform me of what events they want to be styled for and I do the rest. My goal is to take the guesswork out of shopping and styling for every client.

How to Take Your Workwear to the Next Level

For my feature, I thought it was only appropriate to share a workwear essentials guide. I believe that workwear has to be anything but boring. There are so many ways to get creative and show your personality, while still being polished and professional. It all comes down to adding unique pieces, playing with fit and wearing classic items in unexpected ways.

TUCK AND CINCH

One of the main issues with workwear is feeling “frumpy” or lost in your clothing. I highly recommend adding in a front or full tuck to your shirt, or for the ladies, cinching your dress with a belt to add shape.

FIT IS EVERYTHING

Playing with fit can go a long way. Tailoring, although an additional expense, elevates and polishes your look. No one has the same body type for everything to fit perfectly off the rack. Invest in your pieces and make them work for you. You can also look to the opposite end of the spectrum and choose oversized pieces to add interest, drama and a “cool” factor. This is so easy to do. For example you can swap out your classic fitted blazer for an oversized one. If you are going this route, make sure to keep the following tip in mind.

PROPORTIONS

When putting together an outfit ensure that your proportions are correct. The general rule of thumb is loose on the top, tight on the bottom, and vice versa. Playing with proportions gives the impression that you put thought into your look and allows it to look more high fashion.

ACCESSORIES

Just because the base of your outfit is composed of basic and classic pieces does not mean that you can’t use accessories to take it to the next level. Add a fun belt or tie a square scarf around your neck. Add a fun earring or headband. Get a fun patterned tie or handkerchief. It keeps the look professional while allowing your personality to shine through.
