For the month of July, the team gathered at Riverdale Farm, a working farm located in Toronto’s downtown Cabbagetown neighbourhood. Visitors to their 7.5 acre property get a first-hand taste of farm life, from raising livestock to the year-round handwork and craft programs in The Meeting House. The property features flower, vegetable and herb gardens, as well as wooded areas and ponds connected to the city’s rich ravine system.
Despite it being the day of the flash flood in Toronto, the team was committed to coming together for some team building. The initiative was part of Staff Shop’s Social Meetup program led by Laura De Lorenzi, the company’s Brand Manager. The team got a taste of the country in the big city – engaging in farm activities for all ages. They said hello to the baby goats, gathered freshly laid eggs in the chicken coop, and fed the mesmerizing horses.
After some exploring the team recharged with a market-style lunch, eating from the scrumptious delights of Fathima’s Kitchen which offers samosas, pakora, paratha and lemonade. Some team members opted to bring their kiddos along to enjoy the day and see farm life through their eyes. There is always so much wonder in learning about new animals while taking in the vibrant activities of nature. The event was a resounding success, with participants noting that these meetups allow them to connect on interests outside of work.
“Despite Toronto’s major flooding that day, our team made it to Riverdale Farm and had a blast! The adventure started with a splash, literally, but the farm’s charm and our team’s spirit turned it into a memorable day. We laughed, bonded, and splashed in puddles. We even got to buy treats from a local Farmers Market! What a story we now have!” – Belinda
